Lumiere Festival Durham

Commissioned by Durham County Council, the first Lumiere took place in 2009 and its back between 12th and 15th November 2015.

It couldn't be easier to get there by public transport from across the region and make the most of the spectacular Lumiere and the city of Durham. With additional buses running to cater for demand throughout the festival.

Traveling From Birtley/Chester-le-Street
Use Go North East Angel 21 service which will run every 15 minutes as far as Newcastle Bank in Birtley.

Travelling From Gateshead or Newcastle
Go North East bus service X21 will run hourly from Durham Bus Station between 1910 and 2310 alternatively Angel route 21 also by Go North East will run every 30 minutes throughout the evening.

Alternatively Arriva run MAX service X12 from Newcastle to Durham (continuing to Middlesbrough) every hour on an evening.

Alternatively you can catch the train from Newcastle to Durham station, just a few minutes walk from the city centre with trains running often and taking just 10/15 minutes.

Travelling From Bishop Auckland & Spennymoor
Go North East bus service X21 will run twice an hour from Durham to Bishop Auckland via Spennymoor with buses leaving on the hour and half-hour from Durham Bus Station. Buses will also stop on Claypath Underpass, but won’t stop at Milburngate Shopping Centre due to road closures in the City Centre.

Travelling From Darlington
Arriva service 7 from Darlington to Durham operates every hour leaving Darlington at 15 minutes past the hour on evenings and returning from Durham at 15 minutes past the hour. Alternatively jump on a regular train and it takes around 15 minutes to get to Durham.

Travelling From Stanley
Extra buses will run on Diamond route 16 to give an evening service to Stanley every 30 minutes from Durham with buses leaving at 25 minutes past and 5 minutes to the hour from Durham Bus Station.

Travelling From Middlesbrough/Stockton
Arriva run MAX service X12 between Middlesbrough, Stockton & Durham (continuing to/from Newcastle) every hour on evenings.
