Horse Killed In Northumberland By CrossCountry Train
A horse has sadly been killed by a passing train at Warkworth in Northumberland this week delaying trains between Newcastle and Berwick/Morpeth.
The horse was hit by a CrossCountry train at approximately 0745 at a level crossing at Warkworth causing delays of around an hour to CrossCountry, Virgin East Coast and Northern Rail services between Alnmouth, Morpeth and Newcastle.
A passenger who was onboard the train told the Chronicle newspaper that the train had to reverse back so engineers could remove the horse that was "impaled on the front of the train."
The line remained closed until 1020, but everything is now back to normal.
