Virgin East Coast Launch Sunderland Service

Less than a year since it took over the East Coast franchise, Virgin East Coast are launching the first of two new routes within the North East region from this Winter.

The new service will run 1 return journey between Sunderland and London Kings Cross from the Winter timetable which starts on 14th December 2015.

The train will leave Sunderland at 0540 calling at Newcastle (0559), Durham (0612), Darlington (0632), York (0701) & Peterborough (0812) arriving into London Kings Cross at 0908.

The return journey will leave London Kings Cross at 2000 calling at York (2153), Darlington (2221), Durham (2239) & Newcastle (2300) arriving into Sunderland at 2322.

David Horne, Managing Director at Virgin Trains told the Sunderland Echo: "This is a hugely exciting day for us as we move towards operating more services, and adding Sunderland to the Virgin rail map."

Virgin East Coast are also launching a service to/from Middlesbrough which expected by 2020.
