Citywing Launches Newcastle - Gloucestershire Flights

Citywing, a small regional airline based in the Isle of Man, has announced that it will add Newcastle as a stop on flights from Gloucesterhire airport near Cheltenham Spa.

However there is a catch, the route, which takes approx 4hrs by direct train, will mean air passengers will have to travel via the Isle of Man rather than going direct.

The new service leaves Newcastle on Monday's at 1545 arriving into Isle of Man at 1645, leaving Isle of Man at 1710 and arriving into Gloucestershire at 1820. The return operates on Thursday's leaving at 0910, arriving into the Isle of Man at 1020, for an 1100 flight to Newcastle arriving at 1200. Other connections are available but much longer stop overs in Isle of Man airport.

Airport operations director, Darren Lewington said: - “These are welcome additions to our niche network. Citwing has demonstrated the clear demand for short-haul services from Gloucestershire and we’re pleased to be able to expand our passenger services in this way. Our 15-minute check in time and free parking mean that these routes are a practical alternative to the hassle and cost of using larger airports.”

Fares start at £79.95 one way however trains, which operate throughout everyday and run direct taking around 4 hours to Cheltenham Spa start at around £68 one way so we're not sure if this new link will be popular with North East travellers but you can check availability now and book tickets on the Citywing website.
