Virgin Trains East Coast Re-open North East Call Centre

Virgin Trains East Coast is to bring back up to 100 jobs to the region with a new contact centre operation in Gosforth.

The operator, who next month will of been running the East Coast rail route for 1 year, will return the contact centre to the North East after almost 5 years. In 2011, East Coast Rail (the old operator) caused an outrage when it closed down it's Baron House office in the City and moved operations to Plymouth (nowhere near the East Coast line) and Mumbai, India.

The new office will take up room in the Virgin Money head office in Gosforth.

Jobs relating to bookings, special assistance and customer relations will be available at the centre. Employment numbers have not been released by the company, but the centre is capable of housing up to 100 people.

Contact centre manager David Field told the Chronicle: “We’re really pleased to be moving back to the city. We’ll be ramping up recruitment over the next few months to fill a range of positions.

“At this stage, we can’t be specific on job numbers but our ultra-modern new location has capacity for around 100 staff. We’ll be advertising a mix of permanent and temporary positions and all successful applicants will be offered an excellent benefits package.”
