Changes At Arriva In Darlington

Arriva North East are making changes to most Darlington services and those in surrounding areas from this Sunday 15th April 2016.

The changes are a result of analaysing passenger data, trends & comments plus local improvements to the area including the new VUE cinema opening at Feethams.

Service 1: Will see a revised timetable, with some underused early morning journeys between Bishop Auckland, Crook & Tow Law withdrawn. The current Service X1 journey commencing from West Auckland is also withdrawn due to low passenger usage. All evening 1B journeys with be revised to operate via Feethams in Darlington, to allow direct access to the new cinema and restaurant facilities in the area. All other stops will continue to be served. A new earlier Sunday 1B service will also be introduced.

Service 2: Will see a revised timetable, with the peak time journeys via Lingfield Point withdrawn. The link between Lingfield Point and Darlington will instead be provided by Service X67 instead, which will offer a reduced frequency albeit a much faster journey time to compensate (see X67 details below). Monday to Friday peak time journeys will continue to serve Yarm Road Industrial Estate, as they do now, with a revised early evening timetable in place to further improve punctuality.

Service 3/3A/3B: Will see a revised timetable, with a NEW hourly evening and Sunday service between Darlington & Mowden from the same date. This evening and Sunday service is supported by Darlington Borough Council for three years, with the hope that it will become sustainable going forward. All evening journeys to Skerne Park will continue to serve Feethams, as they do now, along with the new evening journeys to Mowden, which will also serve Feethams on an evening. At the same time, daytime journeys on Service 3, 3A and 3B will operate at slightly different times, along with evening Service 3 journeys between Skerne Park and Darlington.

Service 4: Will see a revised evening route, with evening journeys additionally serving Feethams, to provide access to the new cinema and restaurant facilities in the area. All other stops will continue to be served.

Service 5/5A: Will see a revised timetable, with most daytime journeys (Mon-Sat) operating around 5 minutes later than they do now. Evening journeys are also revised to additionally serve Feethams in Darlington. Arriva are also introducing a NEW hourly Sunday evening service between Darlington & Newton Aycliffe (Greenfield Way), to improve the frequency between Darlington & Newton Aycliffe (Greenfield Way) to half hourly, matching Monday to Saturday evenings.

Service 7: Will see a revised timetable, with most daytime journeys (Mon-Sat) operating around 5 minutes later than they do now. Evening journeys are also revised to additionally serve Feethams in Darlington. The current 2315 journey from Durham will extend to Darlington Town Centre. Peak time journeys are also significantly revised, in order to improve punctuality in and around Durham City Centre. There will also be an improvement to Sunday mornings, locally in Darlington with the addition of NEW earlier 'short' Service 7 journeys between Harrowgate Hill & Darlington, plus an earlier departure from Darlington to Durham.

Service 8/8A: Will see revised timetables, with most daytime journeys (Mon-Sat) operating around 5 minutes later than they do now.

Service 9/10: Will see revised evening routes, with evening journeys additionally serving Feethams, to provide access to the new cinema and restaurant facilities in the area. All other stops will continue to be served.

Service 12/12A: Will see a significant revision to route and timetable and Service 12A will be withdrawn, which regrettably will see the Darlington to Trees Park Village section reduce to hourly during the core of the day (Monday to Saturday). More frequent journeys on Service 12 will run in early morning and later afternoon to and from Middleton St George, Middleton One Row & Darlington. Unfortunately, passenger usage on the Darlington to Trees Park Village section is unable to sustain the current level of service. Trees Park Village will therefore only be served at peak times and during the core of the day, Service 12 will operate to a clockwise loop from Darlington to Middleton St George, Middleton One Row and Dinsdale Station before returning to Darlington. Sunday & Bank Holiday journeys on Service 12 between Darlington & Morton Park are also withdrawn. Darlington to Hurworth journeys will remain at two per hour, however will be retimed to offer an improved 30 minute service (Mon-Sat) and 2 hourly on Sundays & Bank Holidays.

Service 13A/13B: Will see revised evening routes, with evening journeys additionally serving Feethams, to provide access to the new cinema and restaurant facilities in the area. All other stops will continue to be served.

Service 19: Will see a revised timetable, however the service will continue to operate up to every 30 minutes (Mon-Sat) and hourly on Sunday & Bank Holidays. There will be no change to the route.

Service 21/21A: Will operate to a revised timetable, with most journeys running around 5 minutes later than they do now. Service 21A will also be revised to operate from Stand 17 in Middlesbrough from the same date.

Service 66: Will operate to a revised timetable, with two journeys per evening (Monday to Saturday) retained, towards Whinfield at 21:35 and 22:35 from Darlington.

Service X21/X22: Will operate to a revised timetable, with most journeys running around 5 minutes later than they do now.

Service X26/X27: will operate to a revised route and timetable, in order to address punctuality problems that are causing concern currently. Service X26 route will remain as now, except for a change of route locally within Catterick Garrison, with most daytime journeys omitting Cambrai Crossroads and Gough Road West, instead operating via Richmond Road directly to Tesco and then as per current route. Hipswell Road West and the majority of Gough Road will reduce to hourly, except for morning and afternoon peak times when all X26 and X27 journeys will operate via that route, maintaining links for commuters and school children. Service X27 will continue to operate normal route as far as Catterick Garrison Tesco, before operating a one way loop of Kemmel & Hipswell (anticlockwise) back to Tesco. Passengers can board and alight at any point on the loop. Evening and Sunday variation 26A will be renumbered X26 and will operate to a revised route in Catterick Garrison also, serving Kemmel once and Colburn Estate once before operating via Catterick Road to Tesco and returning to Darlington. Passengers can board and alight at any point in this section. These revisions are expected to see a significant improvement in punctuality of the service.

Service X66/X67: Will see a marginally revised timetable, primarily on Monday to Friday morning and afternoons, in order to address punctuality issues in and around Darlington. Furthermore, Service X67 will be revised to operate via Lingfield Point, three times a day in each direction on Monday to Fridays, replacing Service 2 and providing a more direct link to Darlington Town Centre for people who work and live within the estate.
