Changes To Arriva In Teesside Services

Following analysis of existing service provision, passenger numbers, feedback received and punctuality data, Arriva North East making the following changes from Sunday 23rd July 2017 in the Teesside area.

Service 7/7A: Stockton - Yarm: Due to increasing levels of congestion in and around Yarm, that continues to cause significant delay to Service 7 on Fridays specifically, Arriva are introducing a completely revised timetable for Fridays that will run separately to Monday to Thursdays. The revisions will see a decrease to a 12 minute frequency from lunchtime on Fridays, allowing buses extra recovery time after each trip, to ensure prompt departure and reduce the loss of journeys due to late operation.

Service 62/62A: Middlesbrough - New Marske: Following feedback regarding Service 62 departure times from Redcar to Eston, Arriva are extending the current 1719 (1714 on Saturdays) journey from New Marske through to Middlesbrough. This will provide a later bus at 17:45 from Redcar Centre that will also serve Fabian Road and Church Lane.

Service 81/81A: Stokesley - Marske Estate: Arriva have been looking at passenger numbers on the first journeys that depart from Stokesley on a morning since January and passenger numbers have not been sufficient enough to continue to operate these journeys. As a result, the current 0738 and 0843 (0748 and 0848 on Saturdays) journeys from Stokesley will start from Farndale Drive in Guisborough instead and will not serve Stokesley or Great Ayton. The first bus arriving/departing Stokesley will therefore be 0935/0945 arrival/0948 departure on Monday to Saturdays. The current 0726 journey from Redcar to Stokesley will be revised to run 10 minutes earlier at 0716 and will operate as Service 81A, omitting Hunters Hill and terminating at The Voyager in Guisborough. The current 0805 Service 81 from Marske Estate will also be retimed to run 10 minutes earlier throughout.

Service S1/S2: Stockton/Middlesbrough - Teesside Park (Saturday Only): Arriva have been operating Saturday only Service S2 for almost 12 months now, following requests received for a link between Middlesbrough & Teesside Park from passengers. Unfortunately, this service has not reached a regular number of weekly passengers to ensure its sustainability and as a result, will be withdrawn after the last journey on 22nd July 2017. Service S1 between Stockton and Teesside Park will continue to operate to an unchanged timetable, every 30 minutes on Saturdays.

Service X12: Middlesbrough - Stockton - Coxhoe - Durham - Chester-le-Street - Gateshead - Newcastle: Arriva have been working hard over recent weeks analysing real time punctuality data for this service. The result is a significant revision to the timetable, primarily affecting morning and afternoon peak times due to delays buses often encounter in and around Newastle, Durham and Middlesbrough.

Most morning journeys will be retimed to run earlier than they do now, allowing extra time between Low Fell and Newcastle. In afternoons they are adding additional time in and around Low Fell, Birtley and Chester-le-Street for southbound trips, along with revised running times within Durham City Centre too.

In Newcastle City Centre, northbound journeys will be re-routed to avoid Blackett Street and will instead run via John Dobson Street, St Marys Place and Percy Street to Eldon Square - a route that will enjoy further bus priority upgrades over the coming months. The overall service frequency is unchanged and buses will still run up to every 30 minutes, with additional journeys at peak times between Durham and Middlesbrough.
