Arriva Buses To Strike Again
As a week of travel misery for bus users of some Arriva services in North East comes to an end at midnight on Saturday night, Arriva drivers based in Darlington, Durham, Redcar, Stockton and Whitby, have announced a further 10 day strike from midnight on 27th January until 5th February.
The strike action is over pay conditions. Arriva offered drivers just before Christmas an offer which included 75p increase in the hourly rate over two years in four instalments. The drivers are seeking an increase £1 per hour on the rates for the year and back dating it to March 2018, which they claim matches their colleagues in other Arriva companies across the UK. Arriva bosses claims its latest pay offer would have made their bus drivers among the best-paid in the region.
A reminder that there will be no services in Darlington and Stockton, tomorrow, Saturday 12th January. A very limited service will operate in East Cleveland, Middlesbrough, Darlington & Durham. This strike DOES NOT affect services in the Tyne & Wear area, except X12 between Teesside & Tyneside.
