Could This Be The End Of Durham Tees Valley Airport

Could this really be the end of Durham Tees Valley Airport?

The bosses at the airport have warned, unless action is taken now, the airport won't be open past 2021.

Robert Hough, chairman of Peel Airports who currently own & operate the airport, said DTVA faced an "extremely uncertain future after 2021" without a plan for the airport and continued to say Peel had been unable to make the progress he would have liked despite its "single-handed best efforts".

The airport, which has been put up for sale, will release a full business plan and "turnaround plan" on Wednesday 16th January 2019 and the documents will then be scrutinised by the Tees Valley Combined Authority (TVCA) on Thursday 17th January 2019.

It is believed that the Stobart Group, who also own Carlisle & London Southend airports, is the potential buyer of the airport.

Teesside would take an "immediate" 57m economic hit if Durham Tees Valley Airport closes in 2021 and put almost 1,100 jobs in jeopardy.
