Recruitment Starts For New East Coast Trains Services
Recruitment has started for a new train company which plans to run new express services between Edinburgh & London via the North East.
East Coast Trains Limited is a brand new, open-access operator created by First Group and has been granted permission to run up to 5 trains a day between Scotland and London, calling only at Morpeth, Newcastle & Stevenage.
An open-access operator runs services with full commercial responsibility for the route and is not part of the normal rail franchise system. Competitor operator, Grand Central ran by Arriva is an example of an already successful open-access operator in the North East.
First Group already operate another successful open-access company called Hull Trains which runs between Hull & London Kings Cross.
East Coast Trains will operate five services a day in each direction between London King's Cross and Edinburgh calling at Stevenage, Newcastle and Morpeth. They have ordered 5 five car Hitachi AT300 trainsets capable of up to 200mph & provide quicker direct journeys between these 5 stations.
Recruitment has already begun for management and will start shortly for train crew, with services expected to start as early as Autumn 2021.
