LNER To Trial Simpler Fares
LNER will be trialling a new ticketing inititive from January 2020 designed to make travelling on trains simpler and clearer. Return tickets will be removed on trial routes from London to Leeds, Newcastle and Edinburgh, and in their place passengers will be able to purchase cheaper single-leg tickets, which will be more in line with half the price of a return journey.
Currently, when customers buy a ticket on the day, a Super Off Peak return between London Kings Cross & Newcastle will cost £141.70 where as a single Super Off Peak ticket is only £140.70 (approx but currently on offer at a cheaper fare). During the trial this would mean the Super Off Peak single fare would be £70.85, a saving of 50%.
The trial will remove the following ticket types from sale on some LNER city to city journeys:
Super Off-Peak Return
Customers will instead have the option to purchase the following single ticket types:
Super Off-Peak Single
The trial will only be for journeys between London Kings Cross and Leeds, Newcastle & Edinburgh. The normal range of return fares currently available between any other stations will still be available in the same way they are now.
New tickets will be on sale for travel from the 2nd January 2020 from 29th November 2019 but if you want to checkout the current fares & book tickets for travel before then why not click here.
