easyJet Confirm Base Closure At Newcastle
Low cost airline easyJet have confirmed confirmed that the closure of its bases at London Stansted, London Southend and Newcastle will go ahead following the completion of its collective consultation process.
From 1st September 2020 unfortunately the crew base at Newcastle will close and the majority of their flights to/from Newcastle will be cancelled. The airline will continue to operate between Newcastle and Belfast, Bristol & Nice using aircraft & crew based at these airports. Belfast & Bristol will continue year round, where as Nice is expected to run until the end Summer.
In a statement the airline blamed the Covid-19 pandemic for the closure of these bases which has resulted in fewer passenger numbers when they had to suspend their flying programme in line with UK Government advice. The airline said in their statement:
"We understand the uncertainty this may cause our customers due to travel to and from these airports and we would like to reassure customers we are we contacting those whose flights are impacted with clear guidance on their options, which include":

easyJet launced services to & from the regions biggest airport back in 2003 and it is believed they had 2 members of their own ground staff based at Newcastle along with over 150 flight crew; it is not known how much this will affect their handling agent staff who provide the passenger service in the terminal.
easyJet's route network, including popular hotspots Alicante & Malaga in Spain are already well connected with other airlines including Jet2.com, TUI and Ryanair so the majority of their routes are still covered from Newcastle. Check fares & tickets by clicking here.
